Atlantic Highlands High School

A BACKWARD GLANCE.....

The first high school in Atlantic Highlands is said to have been a small wooden building on Leonardville Road. An eight room brick replacement, built in 1895, served the needs of a growing population of grade and high school students. Further expansion led to the construction of the present building in 1928, to which a new wing was added in 1941. In 1962 Atlantic Highlands High School closed its doors to be replaced by Henry Hudson Regional High School.

The class of 1962 was the 67th graduating class, with 82 students was the largest class to graduate from the school. A total of 1785 graduates, 963 girls, and 822 boys, can boast of this Alma Mater. The courses adapted through the years to the changing requirements of the colleges and the business world. Wise administrations kept the school accredited since 1928, and loyal faculty members added luster to the ratings.

Go Tigers!
Go Tigers!

If one cannot measure the influence of a teacher, how does one gauge the impact of a school? Here the lessons of life were taught to all by all, not always from a book. It is sad when a school closes its doors for the last time, even when that act is a prologue to a happy beginning. Voices of the past echo in the halls-teams of valor, men of honor, girls of beauty, talent, brains-all these form a part of the heritage of Atlantic Highlands High School. – Author The 1962 Yearbook Staff.

Atlantic Highlands High School closed its doors in 1962, and has since become the location of Atlantic Highlands Elementary School.
